Grooming Report... 2/1/2026

We made it to February... we just wish that winter came with us. There's no easy way to say it, but the snow is trying to escape our trails. These warm temperatures are having their effect and trails will continue to be soft, but there is still plenty of skiing to be found, so we are not giving up yet. We will continue to do the best we can with the snow that we still have. While it only got down to the mid 30's last night and it's expected to get up around the 40's again today, don't let that scare you away from getting out and skiing.

Grooming happened last night with Ginzu's setting fresh skate and classic on the Meadow Loop, the Cut-off's and most of the BCT out to Stonewater Loop, while it was just skate being set on the rest of the BCT out to the northern terminus, Sprint Loop, Stonewater Loop, Beaver Creek Loop, Swamp Creek Loop and Grizzly Mtn.. Because the trails are soft, the corduroy and classic tracks look quite nice, but will still be pretty slow to ski, so just consider it a better workout. Best places to ski are going to be in the open meadows around the trailheads and best time to ski is going to be early while it is at it's coldest.

CAUTION AREAS: The south side of Hot Tub Hill is almost completely bare now, so walking up or around the lodge (see the posted map) are the best options. Trails in the trees are also getting thin and narrow and unfortunately we are probably going to lose those areas if the warms temps continue. The Walk-In Trailhead bare spot is almost trail wide and the Sprint Loop is getting thin with dirt starting to show through in many spots and are just trying to get it through until Monday for the rest of the Tour de Plain race. We are still using the Stonewater detour to their walking bridge, so be sure to follow the signs if you are trying to ski the BCT through that area. Grizzly Mtn also has a trail wide melt out on the ascent up.

CLOSED TRAILS are all of the Mill Hill Complex (Mill Hill, Rowdy Coyote, Chainsaw Ridge, Cougar Run and Lumi Lane) due to trail wide exposed ground, icy spots, melt outs and a mud slide. Signs are posted.

All wheel drive is recommended in all of the parking lots as they are all holding up pretty well, but they are ICY and there are puddles, so please use caution when walking to the the trails.

It's day 3 of TOUR de PLAIN with a short course and a modified long course both starting from the Meadow Loop Trailhead. (The Sprint Loop groomed out smoother than yesterday, but there are many thin dirty spots to avoid.) Tour de Plain is our annual, family-friendly race series that brings community together for a fun race series including 3 more events. Each one welcomes skiers of all ages and abilities to Tour the Plain Valley Ski Trails while raising support for the Plain Valley Nordic Team’s barrier-free ski education program. Join us on the snow!

TRAIL PASSES ARE ALL ONLINE and can be purchased HERE, and as always, kids ski free, but they also need an online PASS.
