Temperatures last night got down to right around freezing which means that the trails this morning should be pretty nice and better than they have been the last few days, although the forecast is calling for a wintry mix this morning and temps rising to around 40 again. The extended forecast is unfortunately showing very similar temps during the day along with some sunshine until the weekend, so we will continue to do the best we can and make adjustments as necessary.

Grooming happened last night with Ginzu's setting fresh skate and classic on the Meadow Loop, the Cut-off's and most of the BCT out to and including Stonewater Loop, while it was just skate being set on the rest of the BCT out to the northern terminus, Sprint Loop, Beaver Creek Loop and Swamp Creek Loop.  You will still find a mix of nice trails in most of the open meadows and thin/narrow/uneven trails as you head into any of trails in the trees.

CAUTION AREAS: The south side of Hot Tub Hill is almost completely bare now, so walking up or around the lodge (see the posted map) are the best options. Trails in the trees are also getting thin and narrow and unfortunately we are probably going to lose those areas if the warms temps continue. The Walk-In Trailhead bare spot is almost trail wide and the Sprint Loop is getting thin with dirt starting to show through in many spots and are just trying to get it through today for the Tour de Plain race. We are still using the Stonewater detour to their walking bridge, so be sure to follow the signs if you are trying to ski the BCT through that area. Grizzly Mtn also has a trail wide melt out on the ascent up.

CLOSED TRAILS are all of the Mill Hill Complex (Mill Hill, Rowdy Coyote, Chainsaw Ridge, Cougar Run and Lumi Lane) due to trail wide exposed ground, icy spots, melt outs and a mud slide. Signs are posted.

All wheel drive is recommended in all of the parking lots as they are all holding up, but you will find some mud and puddles as the day goes on, so please use caution when walking to the the trails.

It's the last day of.the 1st race in our TOUR de PLAIN series with a short course and a modified long course both starting from the Meadow Loop Trailhead. (The Sprint Loop has many thin dirty spots to avoid.) Tour de Plain is our annual, family-friendly race series that brings community together for a fun race series including 3 more events. Each one welcomes skiers of all ages and abilities to Tour the Plain Valley Ski Trails while raising support for the Plain Valley Nordic Team’s barrier-free ski education program. Join us on the snow!

You can get a head start and sign up for our Saturday Clinics 10am - 12pm. They are great for all ages and can be customized for skate or classic. It's a great way to learn better technique and the ability to enjoy our sport even more. Information and sign up can be found HERE.

TRAIL PASSES ARE ALL ONLINE and can be purchased HERE, and as always, kids ski free, but they also need an online PASS.
