Groomer’s Report - Saturday 2/4/23

Good morning skiers! Conditions have been holding very well and the skiing yesterday was super from dawn till dusk! Last evening I classic skied on my skins under a full moon and the tracks were ripping fast. The skate lanes were firm and in great shape. Today we have 27 degrees at 9 AM. The overnight low was 21, and yesterday's high was 34. We have a trace of new, overcast skies, and some light freezing fog. We have fresh skate and classic grooming this morning on the Meadow Loop Trails, Sprint Loop, and the BCT between Plain and Mt. Springs Lodge. Fresh skate on most other trails, with classic left from yesterday. Today's picture is near Stonewater Ranch on the Beaver Creek Trail. Skate and classic with both be very good today.

Want to try a skin ski? Plain Hardware has a small fleet of demo skin skis (classic) that you can try for free. Just drop in anytime at Rentals (Old Mill Cafe) and ask to demo them! I've been classic skiing as much as skate skiing this year and it's been a blast on the skin skis. Fast, quiet, and they don't "clump up" with snow as much as fish scales.

This weekend the Plain Valley Nordic Team is racing at Junior Nordic Qualifier #3 in Winthrop! They will race both classic and skate. These races are used to select a team that will be invited to US Junior Nationals in March, a very high honor. We wish them all luck, and most importantly, that they have a blast! For a few of the younger racers, this will be their first overnight trip with the team. That is always a learning experience in so many ways.

I mention the team as it is central to our core mission at PLain Valley Ski Trails - to teach youth to have a love of the outdoors, community, team, and sport. Each trail pass sold helps to fund the ski team and your support is very much appreciated. This support helps to keep skiing affordable and accessible to all youth in our community.

Snowshoe trails are open and parking lots are plowed. Trail passes are required and can be purchased online at www.skiplain.com or in person at Plain Hardware ( www.plainhardware.com ).

Today's groomers were Rob D, Jason, and Gus.

Have fun out there!
