Rain, Rain go away, don't come back another day.... It's been roughly 24hrs of light rain and temperatures in the mid 30's last night, not exactly the best conditions for Cross country ski trails that are already dealing with a low snow season. We are going to make it through, but with warmer temperatures for the foreseeable future, we are going to modify the grooming just a little bit to hopefully help preserve the trails as best as we can. We are going to be doing light passes with just Ginzu's and will be attempting to skip the thin areas in the trees if we can help it until we get some colder temperatures.
The forecast for today is for the rain to give way to partly sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the 40's. Last night Ginzu's were out just doing light skate passes on the Meadow Loop, Sprint Loop, Mill Hill, Rowdy Coyote, part of Stonewater Loop, Beaver Creek Loop, Swamp Creek and all of the BCT. It's Spring like conditions out there, so in a lot of spots, trails will feel soft and in the trees, there are thin, uneven spots and some icy spots in the tree wells, so use caution. Water near the Stonewater bridge is also beginning to soak into the trail, but it is still passable.
Parking lots will be a mix of soft spots and hard compact icy spots, so watch your footing as you make your way to the trails.
Don't forget about our Saturday Clinics 10am - 12pm, which are great for all ages and can be customized for skate or classic. It's a great way to learn better technique and the ability to enjoy our sport even more. Information and sign up can be found HERE.
