Because the very warm temperatures yesterday and it not dropping down below freezing last night, we made the difficult decision to not groom the trails for today in an attempt to conserve the base that we have and not make things worse. Grooming in such wet conditions can trap water in the snowpack and actually accelerate melting, so we want to do our best to survive this warm front with minimal impact. We will continue to reevaluate each day and it does look hopeful for evening temps to start dropping, even though daytime temps are still expected in the high 40's.
We are experiencing Spring like conditions and trails will remain soft until we get some much colder temperatures. There is still good snow coverage in the meadows around the trailheads if you are anxious to still get out and ski, but use a bit of caution if you venture into the trees where the trails have thin spots and uneven terrain.
PARKING LOT UPDATE: The right side of the Meadow Loop Parking Lot was bladed off yesterday, so will hopefully be in better shape, but it will still be soft and 4wd is highly recommended along with staying to that right side that has gravel underneath. The Beaver Creek Parking Lot is fairing a bit better, but it is melting and has puddles along with exposed spots starting to show through. Also use caution and stay on the firmer areas. 4wd recommended. The Osprey Lodge Parking Lot should be a bit better since it is a gravel lot, but could still have slushy spots. 4wd is also recommended. This is a tough stretch of unseasonal weather we are going through right now and we hope to have winter back very soon.
