Just a reminder that we are still in low snow conditions, but overall most of the trails are holding up quite well and there is some really good skiing out on our trails. Temperatures last night dropped down into the high 20's again and are still below freezing this morning before the fog burns off and they rise into the mid 30's. Trails will be firm this morning and softening up by the afternoon. Best trails will continue to be in the meadows around all 3 trailheads and use caution if you head into the trees as trails there are thin and can be icy with some organic material that has fallen. If you are feeling adventurous and wanting to ski the whole BCT, minus the road crossing, some of the driveway crossing, and Hot Tub Hill, you will surprisingly find coverage to ski on the rest of the trail. There are some narrow spots and areas without classic, but it is possible using the walking bridge Detour at Stonewater. (follow the signs)
The SnoCat was used again last night in the Meadow Loop area setting fresh skate and one set of classic on the Meadow Loop, the Cut-Off's, and the Sprint Loop, while just setting skate on the BCT out to Mountain Springs Lodge. Ginzu's were also out last night setting fresh skate on the BCT from Hot Tub Hill all the way to the northern terminus making passes on Stonewater Loop, Beaver Creek Loop and Swamp Creek Loop, leaving the classic tracks from yesterday.
We are doing the best we can with these unseasonal conditions are really excited to still have snow at all. Get out there and enjoy it while you can!
CLOSED TRAILS now include all of the Mill Hill Complex (Mill Hill, Rowdy Coyote, Chainsaw Ridge, Cougar Run and Lumi Lane) due to trail wide bare spots, icy spots, melt outs and a mud slide. Signs are posted.
All wheel drive is recommended in all of the parking lots, but they are all looking a lot better than they were at the beginning of the week. There are icy spots, so please use caution when walking to the the trails.
Tour de Plain this weekend is CANCELED due to safety concerns on parts of the race course that have low snow coverage. We apologize for the inconvenience and are still planning to make the rest of the series happen with the hope that we get more snow. More information about the Tour de Plain Race can be found by clicking the link.
But we do have our Saturday Clinics 10am - 12pm, which are great for all ages and can be customized for skate or classic. It's a great way to learn better technique and the ability to enjoy our sport even more. Information and sign up can be found HERE.
And we also have our first weekend Immersion Clinics which are for all levels to elevate your skills! Enjoy a hearty ski-in lunch at Mountain Springs Lodge plus a waxing lesson. The goal for beginners is for them to be able to independently ski on flat terrain, able to climb hills and know how to navigate skiing down a hill. Intermediate skiers will review technique fundamentals, explore drills, and address personal goals to improve your technique.
