Today should be another great morning to get out on the trails. Temperatures last night dropped down to just below freezing and although we didn't get any new snow, the trails had plenty of time to set up. The forecast today is calling for a little bit of fog in the morning and then partly sunny skies with highs climbing up towards 40. It looks like our daytime highs for the next week or so are going to be about the same, so we are hoping that the trails will hold up and that it will continue to get cold at night.
Early this morning, the SnoCat was out helping to compact our base with hopes of making it last longer before it gets too thin, it set new skate and classic in the Meadow Loop, BCT out to Mountain Springs Lodge and Mill Hill, while just skate was set in the Sprint Loop. Ginzu's were also out early out on the majority of the rest of the trails also freshening up the skate lanes and setting new classic from Stonewater Loop to the road crossing. Because of the wind that we had last night, there will be areas of organic matter in the trees. Chainsaw Ridge, Cougar Run and Lumi Lane were left alone as the snow cover is thin and uneven, so use caution if you venture out to those trails.
It feels like a bit of a broken record at this point, but we still have overall low snow conditions and you will find that trails in the trees will have mixed coverage and bumpy sections, while you will see the best conditions being in the open meadows around all three of our trailheads.
Parking lots are holding up well, but still be on the look out for the occasional slick or icy spots as you make your way to the trails.
