A very light dusting of snow fell overnight with temperatures getting down into the mid 20's making the trails firm again this morning with some icy spots under the trees. Today is looking like cloudy skies with temps climbing up to the mid 30's. Ginzu's groomed all of the skate lanes last night with better results than the night before, but still producing mixed results. The best skiing is going to remain on the BCT from the northern terminus to the Campground Loop and if you are willing to adventure across the road crossing, south of Swamp Creek Loop down to the turnaround before the creek at Stonewater Loop also is holding up nicely. The best classic tracks are south of the Osprey Lodge down to the Campground Loop and also south of Swamp Creek Loop down to the turnaround before Stonewater Loop. These colder temps are helping the trails to hold up, but there are thin and uneven spots out there especially in the trees. We are still hopeful that there is some precipitation coming this weekend, so we will continue to groom and do our best.
OPEN TRAILS: Everything north of the creek crossing at Stonewater Loop, except the southern side of Grizzly Mtn.
CAUTION AREAS: On the way to the road crossing there is just a sliver of snow left that can be used to get past a large exposed area in the trees. There is also a 2 foot wide melt out that has 2 PVC pipes to help fill the gap. Just after the road crossing are 2 bare driveways and Swamp Creek Loop is showing a few more bare spots on the southern parts of the loop. Grizzly Mtn. is now a 2 way trail and there are a couple of narrow and exposed spots.
PARKING LOTS: The OSPREY LODGE TRAILHEAD at the main entrance of Thousand Trails is our last remaining access point to the trails.
Just a reminder, the PVNT youth practice will be up at the Osprey Lodge Trailhead between 3:30-5:30pm this afternoon.
