It's Super Bowl Sunday and that probably means you are looking to get some skiing in before the game and we have roughly 70% of our trails still open, so you are in luck. The best conditions are up north around the Osprey Lodge Trailhead where is has been staying a bit colder. If you are feeling adventurous, it is possible to ski from there down to the Mountain Springs Lodge access trail to grab a hot drink only having to take you skis off for the road and driveway crossings. Trails in the trees are getting thinner and dirtier with debris, but we are still doing the best we can to provide you with trails that are worth getting out on, so you will find a mix of really nice areas with skate and classic and others that are soft and thin with just skate.
We had a "Wintry Mix" that fell last night leaving a few fresh flakes of snow, but it was mainly rain because the temps didn't quite get down to freezing, so skiing first thing this morning will give you the firmest trails before the temps go back up to around 40. Ginzu's were used last night just on the trails north of Mountain Springs Lodge with fresh skate from there on the BCT out to the northern terminus, Stonewater Loop, Beaver Creek Loop, Swamp Creek Loop and Grizzly Mtn. with the addition of some fresh classic along much of the BCT around the Osprey Lodge Trailhead.
CAUTION AREAS: The whole Meadow Loop area which is still open and skiable, but did not get groomed because of how thin it's getting and the bare spots that need to be avoided. The Walk-In Trailhead has a bare spot is now trail wide so you should walk all the way to the Meadow Loop intersection and we are still using the Stonewater detour to their walking bridge, so be sure to follow the signs if you are trying to ski the BCT through that area. Grizzly Mtn. also has a trail wide melt out on the ascent up and there are spots near the road crossing that now have water across the trail.
CLOSED TRAILS: Sprint Loop and all of the Mill Hill Complex and the BCT from the Mountain Springs Lodge turnaround to the end of the Hitching Post, due to exposed ground and melt outs. Signs are posted.
PARKING LOTS: Both the MEADOW LOOP AND THE BEAVER CREEK parking lots are CLOSED due to mud. Please use the OSPREY LODGE PARKING LOT for parking or get dropped off at the Walk In Trailhead Access.
