For those that got out and skied before the game yesterday, they were treated to firmer trails than were expected and it should be the same for today. Even though the temperatures didn't get too far below freezing, it's allowing the trails to stay cold and hopefully preserve what we still have. The Osprey Lodge Trailhead still has our only open parking lot and Ginzu's were out grooming the skate lanes on the BCT from the northern terminus down to the Mountain Springs Lodge Access, making a pass on the Beaver Creek Loop. We are doing our best to keep those trails open, but you will find them getting thin, dirty and a bit uneven when you are in the trees and wet areas, but overall they are holding up better in the open meadows. The forecast for the upcoming week is for daytime highs around 40, but overnight lows are expected to drop below freezing, so we will see how the trails continue to hold up.
CAUTION AREAS: The whole Meadow Loop area which is still open and skiable, but did not get groomed because of how thin it's getting and the bare spots that need to be avoided. The Walk-In Trailhead has a bare spot is now trail wide so you should walk all the way to the Meadow Loop intersection and we are still using the Stonewater detour to their walking bridge, so be sure to follow the signs if you are trying to ski the BCT through that area. Grizzly Mtn. also has a trail wide melt out on the ascent up and there are spots near the road crossing that now have water across the trail.
CLOSED TRAILS: Sprint Loop and all of the Mill Hill Complex and the BCT from the Mountain Springs Lodge turnaround to the end of the Hitching Post, due to exposed ground and melt outs. Signs are posted.
PARKING LOTS: Both the MEADOW LOOP AND THE BEAVER CREEK parking lots are CLOSED due to mud. Please use the OSPREY LODGE PARKING LOT for parking or get dropped off at the Walk In Trailhead Access to ski the Meadow Loop area.
