We are still experiencing Spring conditions where it gets warm during the day, but drops down to freezing at night. It is starting to take its toll on the trails with this spots leading to melt outs, icy tree wells and sections of trails in the Meadow that are saturated with water and are solid ice in the mornings.
Only Ginzu's were used to groom last night and that might be the new norm. In the Meadow Loop area, fresh skate was set on the Meadow Loop, the Beaver Creek Trail out to Mountain Springs and the Sprint Loop with classic being set on one side with mixed results being down to ice in many spots. Be aware of thin spots out by Mountain Springs Lodge and the far entrance to the Sprint Loop. The Walk in Trailhead has a slight detour into the Sprint Loop area because of a melt out.
Closures include the entire Mill Hill complex, the section between Mountain Springs Lodge to Stonewater Loop and the southern section of Grizzly Mountain, which all have melt out sections and signs posted.
The northern trails are holding up a bit better and the Ginzu was out setting fresh skate on everything that is open and classic from the Beaver Creek Trailhead to Stonewater Loop and Swamp Creek Loop and with mixed results in some spots. Overall, there is still great skiing out there especially around the Beaver Creek Trailhead out to Stonewater Loop, Swamp Creek Loop and the open areas around the Osprey Lodge Trailhead.
Use caution in the parking lots, they could be icy in the morning and micro spikes are recommended. As the temperatures rise, be aware that they will start to get slushy/muddy, so use caution if in a low clearance 2wd vehicle.
