Grooming Report/Trail Update 3/5/2025

pvst11

How much longer will the trails be open???.  That's the magic question and the quick answer is.. it depends.  The plan as of right now is that we are hoping to keep the Meadow Loop area open through this weekend if at all possible and then to continue grooming the northern trails at least through the following weekend.  The goal to be able to offer a quality trail experience and not just keep sketchy trails open to say we have trails open.  Hopefully that makes sense and we thank you for all of your patience with this abnormal snow year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had a little bit of rain yesterday afternoon and temperatures did get down below freezing again last night, so trails will be firm to start out with this morning before the temps jump up to 40's again under mostly sunny skies.

Grooming happened with the Ginzu's last night freshening up the skate on the Meadow Loop, Sprint Loop and the Beaver Creek Trail out to a shortened turnaround just before Mountain Springs Lodge where it is closed from there out to the Stonewater Loop.  The Walk in Trailhead has a slight detour into the Sprint Loop area because of a melt out and it is getting very narrow at the far entrance.  Some parts of these trails are getting thin and saturated with water which is making large frozen sections of trail, so use caution.

Up north where the trails are still holding up better, skate was set on all of the open trails including the BCT from Stonewater Loop to the Clear Creek Turnaround (which also got one new set of classic from the Beaver Creek Trailhead north), Stonewater Loop, Swamp Creek Loop, the north side of Grizzly Mtn. (which is a 2 way trail now) and the Clear Creek Loop.  Open areas are looking the best and be aware of some thin icy spots under the trees between those open spots.   Driveway crossings are also getting thin.

Closures include the entire Mill Hill complex, the section just before Mountain Springs Lodge to Stonewater Loop and the southern section of Grizzly Mountain, which all have melt out sections and signs posted.

Use caution in the parking lots, they could be icy in the morning and micro spikes are recommended.  As the temperatures rise, be aware that they will start to get slushy/muddy, so use caution if in a low clearance 2wd vehicle, especially the Beaver Creek Trailhead.
