Trail Update... 12/19/2025

ree

It is so refreshing to finally see some snow on the ground again and it renews our excitement to get our trails open for all of you. While the trails are still currently CLOSED, we did get 4-5" of new snow and we were out this morning evaluating the system to see if there were any new issues that need to be addressed. We did find a new tree that had come down and the rain and flooding has made a couple of our bridges currently unpassable until water levels recede, so we are working on possible alternatives.

There is not quite enough snow to fully roller pack the trails and start to prepare a solid base for the season, but we are hoping that we get more snow tonight that will allow us to pack the Meadow Loop area. The concern with going out and packing the trails too soon is that since the ground is still saturated with water, a few issues can arise.

One, with shallow snow over wet ground, the roller pushes snow down into standing water and mud and instead of creating a supportive base, you end up with a slushy mix that struggles to ever freeze solid.

Two, the tracks from the Yamaha Grizzly (our tracked 4-wheeler) can push into the soft ground and pull up mud onto the trails and that dark mud absorbs heat, speeds up melting and can prevent good bonding with new snow falls, not to mention that it can create dirty trails which no one like to ski on.

Bottom line, we want to be careful to make sure that we are helping the trails and now creating set backs that will force us to delay opening. This patience will hopefully pay off with a smoother, longer-lasting base once we start getting the colder temperatures to go along with the snow.

Thank you for checking out the update and we look forward to give you better news soon.
