Winter is not giving up quite yet and the forecast is calling for some snow today and we are hoping that it brings more than they are expecting. Temperatures got down to the high 20's last night and are expected to jump up a few degrees to the low 30's. This morning will be a great time to get out and ski with the best places to ski still being from the northern terminus to the Campground Loop and south of Swamp Creek Loop to the creek crossing just before Stonewater Loop. In between those areas you will find a mix of small ribbons of snow, icy areas and a few exposed areas including the driveway crossings, which hopefully this snow will help us fill in those areas a little bit. Ginzu's were out last night freshening up the skate lanes on all of the open trails and leaving the classic tracks until we can get more favorable conditions. We are thankful to still have some snow out there and a common sentiment is that, "it's better than I thought it would be." We'll take that..
OPEN TRAILS: Everything north of the creek crossing at Stonewater Loop, except the southern side of Grizzly Mtn.
CAUTION AREAS: On the way to the road crossing there is just a sliver of snow left that can be used to get past a large exposed area in the trees. There is also a 2 foot wide melt out that has 2 PVC pipes to help fill the gap. Just after the road crossing are 2 bare driveways on the way to the Swamp Creek Loop which is showing a few more bare spots on the southern parts of the loop. Grizzly Mtn is now a 2 way trail and there are a couple of narrow and exposed spots.
PARKING LOTS: The OSPREY LODGE TRAILHEAD at the main entrance of Thousand Trails is our last remaining open parking for the trails and has limited parking.
THE WASHINGTON NORDIC CUP RACE that we are hosting tomorrow has been moved up to the STEVENS PASS NORDIC CENTER. We are very thankful for their partnership and allowing us to still make this race possible. Even though it is not going to physically be in Plain this year, we really hope that you can still come out and support our Plain Valley Nordic Team! More information can be found HERE.
TOUR de PLAIN UPDATE: Race #4 is going to be part of our Washington Nordic Cup race tomorrow, which because of current snow conditions, is going to be hosted at the Stevens Pass Nordic Center. It will be a classic Master's event with a start time of 12:00pm. More information and registration can be found by clicking HERE.
